91. The Dragon Heir - Cinda Williams Chima

To be completely honest, I'm a little disappointed.

I know that's not how I should be starting off this review but this book took me 200 pages to really get into the story, and I kept reading because I knew from the first two books that I was going to like it sooner or later. So I suffered for a bit, and then it did get good! Like I knew it would!

It turned out a little differently than I had predicted and I had forgotten so much from the first book that I had to just go along with some of the plots, but it honestly got so good that I couldn't put it down for the last 300 pages.

And then the ending happened.

Three pages of an explanation to where everyone's future went was not enough for me. I am fully aware that there are two more books after this one (I own them already, so of course I know), but this rushed end with no solid future for any of the beloved characters really upset me.

Yes, again, this series has two books after it, but those books (upon reading the summaries) seem to have nothing to do with the original characters from the first three books. I'm going to give them a shot just in case we can see where my favourites are at, but if they don't appear then I'm going to be a little upset.

Okay, maybe a lot upset.

They deserved better than a couple sentences each. I don't think I've ever been this upset about a book ending. Probably ever. I'm going to probably be salty for a bit now. But I still gave it 4 stars.

90. Everland - Wendy Spinale

One thing you should know about me is that as a kid, after the live-action Peter Pan came out, I was OBSESSED with the story. I watched the cartoon all the time and I'm convinced Jeremy Sumpter was my first love. I am 100% getting at least one Peter Pan tattoo in case anyone is wondering as well. Eventually.... not right away though, I am a broke college student right now with $19 to my name and a credit card to pay off so. Tattoos have to wait, but this is a book that I loved so I should talk about that instead.

Everland is a futuristic, steampunk, little girl Bella with gold fairy dust and mechanical wings, apocalyptic, AMAZING.

I have always kind of underlined certain things in books that really resonated with me when I'm reading. For example, the To All the Boy's I've Loved Before trilogy if you go find one of the reviews (I think its the second book, PS I Still Love You) you can find the quote from Stormy that moved me at that time in my life. When I read it I just went, "yes, I needed this right now." So I do that now but I like to highlight it so I can always go back and reread the book and see if any feelings have changed or if I leant out the book then whoever is reading it can see if they have similar feelings.

So anyway, with that explanation, I highlighted A LOT. Normally I get one or two quotes that I love, but in Everland there were many. Probably like six, but that's a lot for me.

When Pete says "to die would be an awfully big adventure," I cried. Then obviously highlighted it.

I knew it was a Peter Pan retelling going in, but I honestly didn't know what to expect and I think it was better that way, for me at least.

But the basics of it for anyone who wishes to know is:

London has fallen, everyone is pretty much dead. Hook destroyed everything and accidentally let loose a virus that leaves no one unharmed. Pete helps Gwen save herself and her family and she helps him save the lost boys(/kids) and it's a GREAT adventure and probably my favourite retelling ever. I mean it.

Spoiler!!!

Gwen chopping off Hooks' hand gave me life, and days after I'm still living for that moment of pure amazing.

89. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - Stephen King

Right so...

A little background before I tell you my thoughts on this book.

I have a friend, who is obsessed with Stephen King. She owns like half of what he's written and has read most of them. I want so badly to start reading Stephen King and I purchased IT like two Christmases ago but like that book is so big, its intimidating.

So my friend, who loves Stephen King, asked if I wanted one of his books last Christmas. Obviously, that's a yes from me. She went shopping with her other friend, who neither of us is friends with anymore for different reasons, and that second friend told her to buy me The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. That friend told my Stephen King friend that I would love it because she and I have the same taste in books? No, I've recommended her some books that I thought she'd like and she did so she picked out this book for me.

My aunt, whom I live with, also loves baseball and many of my friends are well aware of this. So I guess she got it in her head that I too, love baseball.

I suffered through this book for the most part. It only took me two days to read it really. My Stephen King friend also told me when I was halfway through that she never actually finished reading it because she didn't like it at all.

I was mostly reading it because of the OWLs readathon I was doing and I needed it for Charms - an adult genre book. So I got that class and all is well.

But this book is a lot of hallucinating baseball in the wild that I didn't need in my life. The only thing I got from this is I actually finished reading a Stephen King books whereas it has been about nine months and I've still only read about 100 pages of IT.

In case you got bored and didn't finish the book either...

She talks to a lot of people that aren't there. Three 'Gods' tell her they don't have time for her. Nine days after she goes missing, she tries to fight a bear with her walkman. Then she is rescued when some man shoots that bear and brings her to the hospital (I think).

That's it.

I gave it three stars because it wasn't terrible, it was just a tad boring and I could have probably taken a nap while reading it. The end.

88. Nightfall - Jake Halpern

So, I started this review early (you'll read the whole thing when I'm done the book) but I've read only 52 pages and I have some feelings about it already.

Listen, it is March and it has taken me two weeks to read 52 pages. This book has an air of full creep factor that I was not prepared for. I had put this book up for a spooky September-October read last year but after finishing Nevernight I decided I wanted something creepy because Nevernight was a little creepy, but this is a whole different level of creep.

Seriously, not even 'Bad Girls Don't Die' or 'Hocus Pocus' or 'There's Someone Inside My House' was this weird. I'm getting into the habit of reading before bed and I thought that picking up this book before bed was the reason it seemed so creepy but I read it in the middle of the day on a train full of people and had the same feeling of full creep factor so it wasn't that problem.

There's just something freaking scary about it and I can't figure it out.

Okay, now that I'm done:

Still creepy like no one's business. I had to read this book during the middle of the day while I was at home with the sun still up. I couldn't read it on the train or at school because horror in public is a terrible idea for me.

On top of that, I have many unanswered questions. What happens when they make it to the desert lands? What happens when they have to return to Bliss? Please tell me these things. I need answers.

Anyway, if you want to get freaked out for a couple of days while you read this (or weeks because I honestly needed the perfect setting to sit down and read this) then you should read this book.

87. Manners & Mutiny - Gail Carriger

An end to an era.

If I'll be completely honest, this book was great until maybe the last two chapters. She ended up with the guy I liked best for her and graduated and all those good things, but she then just kind of decided to sit around and do nothing because her services weren't needed.

What the hell are you trying to do to me?

You spend four books getting her to be so great and awesome and then you give her a job where all those skills are now useless and not needed.

86. Maximum Ride - James Patterson

This book was a reread for me. I read it long ago and half of the second book so I'll be on my way to reread that soon as well.

I remember loving this book so much when I was little - I think I read this when I was in grade 7 or 8. My brother had got the books from somewhere (I can't remember any part of if they were from the library, a gift, or he begged my parents to buy them) and when he was finished with the first trilogy, he told me to read them. Obviously, I never finished it, so when I found them all matching paperbacks for $5 at the used book store in my city, I needed them.

I've got to say it didn't pull me in as it did when I was 13 but it was a cute read. It was easy, quick, and I did enjoy it. My original rating was five stars but after the reread I changed it to four stars. I'm sure if I have kids, and if they're anything like me, they will love this as one of their first reads.

I'm still going to read the rest of this trilogy, and I have the first two books that come after these three so I'll read those too. When I go back to the used book store I will check for more because I don't think this series can make me angry enough to stop reading this story.

There are some other books I'll read between these books but when I need s fast, light read I'll definitely pick up this series. Stay tunned.

85. The Lost Hero - Rick Riordan

So, Rick, here we are.

I knew that I needed to read this and here we are. I've read it and get ready for my thoughts. Percy Jackson series is one of my favourite series of all time. I've read it twice and I was getting into the mood to reading it again and I told myself to stop. You finally have the entire Heros of Olympus series - I bought them over Christmas break 2018 - so you should read something new.

Yes, I was going to like it. I knew I would. My brother loves the series and considering some of the characters reoccur in this series, then I would like to read that.

Boy, was all of this an understatement.

Percy Jackson is missing and a dude named Jason shows up with new friends Piper and Leo. These three show up at camp and get a quest of their own in like five minutes and leave the next morning. (This was like the only issue I had with this book... like give them a week?) However, this book was so long I see why he did it this way.

I gave it 5/5 stars because obviously and added it to my favourite books list on Goodreads. I really liked most of the villains - King Midas was the best honestly - and the dragon was awesome. Poor Leo, we need to protect the baby. Piper though is honestly my hero, she's the daughter of the Goddess of love and she's badass about it. Really comes into her own skin and I love her for it.

Please read this and Percy Jackson. It's the best thing ever. I'm off to read the next one now.

84. Nevernight - Jay Kristoff

Nevernight took me so long to read. Not going to lie, the first 2/3 of the book is basically just information. Most of it is excellent information, things you need to understand for sure. However, that's why it took me so long. It was a tad boring.

The footnotes too, those were weird at first but like I get it. I saw why we needed them and I appreciated them.

Her first day in the Hall of Songs was wild and when I describe this book to other people I tell them about this. They're always like oh assassin, can't be that bad. Assassin books are weak these days. But noooOOOOoooo she gets her arm chopped off and it's gross and intense and scary as hell.

Also, Tric is the best thing this book has to be honest. There are some smut scenes for those of you who really need the action in your life. So basically there's something for everyone. Sex, violence, people dying, magic, a cat who's not really a cat, a wolf whos not really a wolf, even a lesbian.

The last third of the book, as soon as she gets kicked out of the assassin school, fuck that's good.
 SO WORTH the wait. I needed this book in my life. I will be continuing on to the next book and I am pretty sure I will end up reading the third book when it comes out too.

More footnotes and adventures with my favourite assassin. And her cat who is not a real cat. I hope the traitor comes back too. They're cool.

On to the next! I gave it four stars also because like there was a lot of downtime that took me a lot of will power to power through it. But still worth it.

83. Before I Go - Colleen Oakley

My old boss let me borrow this while she borrowed The Raven Boys from me and let me tell you I had to sit in the back and cry one of my lunch breaks because it was too much.

It probably took me like a month to read this because I left it in the store rather than bringing it home and this left me with about half an hour every day that I could read this. Which was probably better because it left me more time to soak in what was happening here.

It was a beautiful book about a young girl pretty much dying and I think that's all I should tell you. Yes, its a cancer book but I highly recommend it.

This is also a great book to read if you just need to cry about something. Because you will cry. I ugly cried before heading back out to work and if I can do that, then so can you.

82. Glass Sword - Victoria Aveyard

Wow, this stuff gets crazier and crazier as the books go on. I love Mare and everyone so much and I know that after the plot twist in the last book that I wasn't ready for this one.

To be honest, I've read the whole series (which I love) but this book doesn't stand out to me anymore. Out of all four books, this one is the only one that I can't remember EXACTLY what happened inside.

That being said, I do remember that I took my time reading this very slow and soaked it all in and enjoyed every last second of it.

I think that maybe I don't remember much because the next book was soooo good. So, that's probably why but either way, you need to read this series!!!
